-rw-r--r-- 2 rfunk staff 3580413 Sep 26 10:40 GSPrint.tar.gz full GSPrint package -rwxr-xr-x 1 rfunk staff 7596 Sep 26 11:43 gsprint GSPrint interface scriptGSPrint is intended to be a replacement for NeWSprint, since NeWSprint no longer works in Solaris 2.6. It uses Ghostscript and GNU enscript to do its work, but it is far from finished; It does work for me though. At this point you are expected to know how to use
lpadmin
to add a printer. (And I hope you know it better than I do!)
To install it, go to /opt and untar the file above;
the GSPrint directory will be created.
(The system is compiled to look in /opt/GSPrint for
various files, so it is not a simple matter to move it.) The interface
script is /opt/GSPrint/lib/model/gsprint;
it is currently set up for a
SPARCprinter (which requires the lpvi driver to be installed already).
For the input type, use PS,simple since the interface
script will accept both text and postscript.
Sun recommends that you use Vividata's PShop software to replace NeWSprint, but I don't see any reason to pay $495 (minimum commercial price), $249 (non-commercial organization) or even $49 (personal use) when Ghostscript is available for free. Vividata does, however, give instructions on installing the lpvi driver if you don't already have it.
It may help to see some general instructions on configuring a Solaris PostScript printer.
